Application for Automated CNC Tool Corrections Based on Measurement Results

Industry automationManufacturing

Machining tools gradually wear over time, which can affect the dimensional accuracy of manufactured parts. The ReCON SQC application connects measurement directly with the CNC machine – it automatically calculates the required tool corrections based on measured values and sends them to the machine control system. This helps maintain consistent production quality while reducing the need for manual data entry.

About the Case Study _

Benefits for the customer and end-users:

  • Fast delivery thanks to our previous work on the ReCON platform and knowledge of the manufacturing domain
  • A dedicated Edhouse development team, including project management and software quality assurance
  • A solution designed for integration into the existing ReCON platform
  • Automated calculation of tool corrections based on measurement results
  • Reduced risk of errors associated with entering corrections manually
  • Processing of results from both automated and manual measurements
  • Integration with CNC control systems from different manufacturers, such as Fanuc, Mitsubishi and Siemens, via OPC UA
  • Storage of measured values with access to their measurement history

TAJMAC-ZPS is a Czech engineering company with a long history, specialising in the manufacture of machining centres while also developing its own ReCON digital platform. Following our previous work on the ReCON APS module, the company approached us to continue the development of another application within the platform – ReCON SQC.

Our experience with industrial projects and familiarity with the ReCON environment allowed us to build on the existing collaboration quickly. We put together a dedicated software development team for the project and also provided project management and software quality assurance (SQA).

ReCON SQC is an application within the ReCON platform designed to automatically calculate tool corrections, primarily for Swiss-type lathes used in series production. At regular intervals, operators measure machined parts either manually or using measuring equipment. Based on these measured values and recipes configured by a process engineer, the application automatically calculates corrections for individual tool positions.

The corrections are then sent to the machining centre via an OPC UA interface. This interface can connect to most CNC control systems, including those from Fanuc, Mitsubishi and Siemens. Each measurement record is also stored in a database, allowing users to view the measurement history for every monitored dimension.

In this way, SQC helps manufacturers maintain consistent production quality while providing a documented record of measurement results for their customers.
